5 anime characters like Mayuri Kurotsuchi from Bleach who share similar traits and tendencies in their respective shows
Mayuri Kurotsuchi from the Bleach series has a reputation for being a little creepy. Despite this, the 12th Division Captain had a significant impact on the plot with his fighting abilities. Furthermore, there are few characters in the series who can outsmart someone like Mayuri Kurotsuchi. Part of the reason why fans find him creepy is his attitude towards human beings. You and I are mere objects that can be researched and used to derive data from. The lack of morality in his actions can be concerning at times.
There are several characters in various anime titles who are similar to Mayuri in this regard. Some of them are deuteragonists or side characters, while others are antagonists with psychotic tendencies. Let’s take a look at some examples of characters who are quite similar to Mayuri Kurotsuchi from the Bleach anime and manga series.
Gendo Ikari And 4 Other Anime Characters Like Mayuri Kurotsuchi From the Bleach Series
1) Gendo Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion
Gendo Ikari is the main antagonist in Neon Genesis Evangelion. This is a cult classic that is known for its incredible storytelling and complex characters. There is an inherent dystopian atmosphere in the anime. Gendo Ikari is one of those dads who didn’t really care about his child and caused lifelong problems for him. Gendo Ikari is your typical mad scientist and an evil genius. Much like Mayuri Kurotsuchi, he doesn’t really care about people except for his dead wife. He views other people as objects that can be researched. Anyone other than himself is a mere stepping stone to reach closer to his cause, and that is to reunite with his dead wife.
In the process, he quite literally ended up using his own son. He is extremely calculative, conniving, and highly methodical. Just like Kurotsuchi from Bleach, Gendo would go to any lengths to achieve his goals. He is the type of person who would treat the Geneva Conventions like they’re the “Geneva Suggestions.”
2) Shou Tucker from Fullmetal Alchemist
Shou Tucker from the Fullmetal Alchemist series made every viewer gasp in abject horror. He is the kind of person you’d feel sorry for just by going off his looks and demeanour. He is likeable and seems socially awkward. However, the things he managed to do in the series show just how far he would go in the name of science. This aspect of Shou is quite reminiscent of the creepy Captain from the Bleach series.
Shou was researching Chimeric alchemy. He wanted to give an animal the ability to converse in a language used by humans. He had a daughter he supposedly loved, and she spent a great deal of time with her pet dog. If you haven’t watched the show, this is where you connect the dots and save yourself from the horrid image every viewer was forced to witness. He fused his daughter and his dog, which created this horrifying creature of half man and half dog.
The speech was slurred and different. Shou’s willingness to go to extreme lengths for his experiments shows just what a maniacal scientist he was. This reminded fans of the time they watched Mayuri Kurotsuchi on screen.
3) Kyudai Garaki from My Hero Academia
Kyudai Garaki is one of those characters that just gave you chills down your spine every time he was on screen. Ethics as a concept simply didn’t exist in his purview. He constantly experimented on people and their Quirks. He was extremely loyal to All For One, which says a lot about him. Much like Kurotsuchi, he was a scientist who didn’t hesitate to push the boundaries. He always wanted to explore every possibility, even if it meant at the cost of other people’s lives. He is also very calculative and methodical, which is evident when he created the extremely powerful Nomus in the show.
Kurotsuchi, despite siding with the good guys, also did questionable things. Kyudai is quite similar to Kurotsuchi in this regard. His intelligence and persistence are borderline horrifying because he will not stop until he reaches perfection in literally everything that he does.
4) Orochimaru from Naruto
If you grew up watching the Naruto series, seeing Orochimaru’s snake-like head coil around Sasuke induced nightmares. The ominous soundtrack that accompanied this horrifying visual didn’t help either. Orochimaru is similar to Mayuri Kurotsuchi from Bleach in the sense that both of them are quite creepy. Every time they are on screen, viewers feel a sense of discomfort. Such is the effect of this character in the anime series.
Much like the aforementioned Bleach character, Orochimaru is exceptionally intelligent. His thirst for knowledge with regard to ninjutsu could never be satiated. He also experimented with people in order to deepen his understanding of anatomy and certain ninjutsu techniques. Both Mayuri Kurotsuchi and Orochimaru create this feeling of uneasiness, and there aren’t many characters that do it like them.
5) Senku from Dr. Stone
Senku is arguably one of the most sane entries on this list. Somehow this leek-resembling science enthusiast managed to create modern devices with the technology that was present in the Stone Age. His intelligence and practical applications are among the highest on this list. While his appearance is relatively normal, his temperament can be compared to Mayuri Kurotsuchi. Both of them are extremely methodical and rational in their approach to most things.
Senku quite literally revived everyone who was petrified and turned into rocks. Seeing him create objects that took centuries of scientific advancement was quite impressive. Despite how creepy both of them can be, they are the type of characters you’d want on your side. Both Senku and Mayuri Kurotsuchi showed exactly why that’s the case.
Conclusion
Mayuri Kurotsuchi is without a doubt a horrifying character. His odd appearance, extremely high intelligence, and persistence can rarely be matched. However, these characters have similar traits when we compare them to the Bleach character. These are some of the most unhinged anime characters that one might encounter and possibly think of Kurotsuchi.
